Why burn rate matters

Most people in India feel salary pressure around the third week of the month. This is not because the salary is too low, but because the burn rate is invisible until it is too late.

Knowing your survival date changes behaviour. It turns vague anxiety into a specific number you can act on before the month slips away.

What is salary burn rate?

It is the speed at which your monthly income gets consumed by fixed costs, daily spending, and discretionary purchases. Knowing it turns vague anxiety into a specific survival date you can act on.

How do I calculate how long my salary will last?

Add every fixed cost — rent, EMIs, bills, subscriptions, food, transport, family support. Add daily variable spending multiplied by 30. Divide your total salary by your daily burn to get your survival day.

What is a safe daily spending limit?

It is the daily guardrail left after fixed costs and savings are removed from your salary. Calculated as (salary - fixed costs - savings target) / 30. Stay under it and you reach month-end stress-free.

How can I reduce salary burn?

Attack the top three categories by percentage first. Negotiate rent, cut subscriptions, and batch-cook to reduce food delivery. Add a 24-hour pause rule for non-essential purchases above ₹500.

Should I track fixed expenses first?

Absolutely. Fixed expenses are predictable, recurring, and usually the largest part of your burn. Once they are documented, you know exactly how much room you have for variables and savings.

Why does my salary feel tight before month-end?

Because daily variable spending is invisible until it accumulates. A ₹250 chai and snack habit becomes ₹7,500 a month. The burn rate calculator exposes these leaks so you can fix them before the 25th.
