Where UPI leaks hide

UPI AutoPay makes payments effortless, which also makes them easy to forget. Free trials convert to paid mandates, annual plans renew without notice, and subscriptions you stopped using keep debiting your account.

The best defence is a simple list: what, how much, when next, and do I still need it. This tool gives you that list. The actual pause or cancel action happens inside your UPI app or bank app.

What is UPI AutoPay?

UPI AutoPay is a recurring mandate you set up in PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, or your bank app. Once active, money is debited automatically on a fixed schedule—no UPI PIN required each time. It is used for Netflix, insurance premiums, SIPs, and utility bills. The danger is that it keeps running even after you stop using the service.

How do I track UPI AutoPay payments?

Add every merchant, amount, frequency, next debit date, and the UPI app that manages it. Mark items as "Unsure" or "No" if you no longer need them. The tool surfaces upcoming debits, yearly exposure, and a cancellation checklist you can act on immediately.

Can I cancel UPI AutoPay from Essara?

No. Essara is a manual tracker, not a bank connector. To cancel, open the UPI app where you created the mandate, go to AutoPay or Mandates, select the merchant, and revoke it. Use Essara's checklist to track which ones you have already cancelled.

Where can I manage UPI AutoPay mandates?

In the same UPI app you used to create it. PhonePe: Menu → AutoPay → Select → Revoke. Google Pay: Profile → AutoPay → Manage. Paytm: UPI & Money → AutoPay → Cancel. Bank apps: UPI section → Mandates. Always take a screenshot after revoking for proof.

Why should I review AutoPay payments monthly?

Because free trials auto-convert to paid mandates, apps raise prices silently, and services you stopped using keep debiting your account. A 5-minute monthly review can save ₹5,000–₹15,000 per year. Set a recurring calendar reminder for the first Sunday of every month.

What happens if I ignore UPI AutoPay?

Your account keeps getting debited for services you no longer use. Over a year, 2–3 forgotten mandates can drain ₹5,000–₹20,000. Worse, some merchants make cancellation difficult by hiding the revoke option deep inside the app. Tracking them manually is the only way to stay in control.
