Practical UPI cancellation guide

How to cancel UPI AutoPay in Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm

Use this checklist to find, revoke, and document recurring UPI mandates. Essara helps you track the mandate and reminder manually. Essara does not cancel mandates for you.

Check the official app

Start where the mandate was created: UPI app, bank app, app store, or merchant account.

Revoke with UPI PIN

Most UPI mandate changes need confirmation inside the payment app.

Keep proof

Save status screenshots, emails, debit SMS messages, and support tickets.

Official framing

For UPI-specific RBI framing, see the RBI notification on processing e-mandates in UPI for recurring transactions here.

  1. 1Open Google Pay and tap your profile picture.
  2. 2Choose Autopay.
  3. 3Open the Live tab and select the mandate.
  4. 4Use Pause autopay or Cancel autopay, then confirm with your UPI PIN.
  5. 5Check the mandate status and save a screenshot.
  1. 1Open PhonePe and go to Profile.
  2. 2Open Autopay Settings.
  3. 3Select the merchant or mandate you want to stop.
  4. 4Delete, cancel, or revoke the mandate and confirm in the app.
  5. 5If the mandate looks suspicious, raise a complaint from PhonePe Help.
  1. 1Open Paytm and search for AutoPay or UPI AutoPay.
  2. 2Find the active mandate in the AutoPay or mandates section.
  3. 3Open the mandate details.
  4. 4Choose cancel, revoke, stop, or delete mandate.
  5. 5Confirm and keep the success screen or confirmation message.

Bank app or NPCI route

NPCI UPI AutoPay
  1. 1Open your bank app and look for UPI, Mandates, AutoPay, or Standing Instructions.
  2. 2Find the merchant, amount, UPI ID, and next debit date.
  3. 3Revoke the mandate from the bank app if available.
  4. 4If the UPI app and bank app both fail, contact bank support or use official NPCI support channels.
  5. 5Keep proof of the request and follow up until the mandate status changes.

Merchant and bank reality check

Some subscriptions have two separate controls: the payment mandate and the service subscription. Cancel the UPI mandate to stop automatic debit, and also cancel the merchant plan if the merchant account still shows an active plan or dues.

FAQ

Can Essara cancel my UPI AutoPay mandate?

No. Essara tracks and reminds manually. Cancellation must happen inside the UPI app, bank app, NPCI flow, or merchant account that controls the mandate.

Where do I cancel Google Pay AutoPay?

Google Pay says live mandates can be managed from Profile, then Autopay, then the Live tab. Choose the mandate, select pause or cancel, and confirm with UPI PIN.

What if the UPI app does not show the cancel option?

Check the merchant account, the bank app UPI mandates section, and NPCI or bank support. Keep screenshots of the mandate, failed cancellation attempts, and debit messages.

Does cancelling AutoPay cancel the subscription itself?

Not always. Cancelling a payment mandate can stop future automatic debits, but you may still need to cancel the service in the merchant app to avoid dues, account lock-in, or retry attempts.
