What is a subscription leak?
A subscription leak is money that leaves your account every month through recurring payments you no longer use, forgot about, or would not buy again today. In India, the most common leaks are UPI AutoPay mandates that outlive their trial period, duplicate OTT plans, and app-store subscriptions you stopped opening.
How do I find forgotten subscriptions in India?
Open your UPI app and check AutoPay / Mandates. Then check Google Play → Payments & subscriptions, App Store → Subscriptions, card e-mandate emails, net-banking recurring instructions, and your last 3 months of bank SMS alerts. Look for identical merchant names and round-figure debits that repeat monthly or yearly.
How do I calculate yearly subscription cost?
Multiply monthly subscriptions by 12. Weekly payments become × 52. Quarterly plans become × 4. For yearly renewals, divide by 12 to see the monthly equivalent. This annualized view is what makes small prices feel expensive—and helps you decide faster.
Can this track UPI AutoPay subscriptions?
Yes. Add each UPI AutoPay mandate manually with its amount and billing cycle. Essara will treat it as a recurring payment and include it in your leak score. This tool does not connect to your bank or UPI app, so your data stays private.
Is this free to use?
Yes. The Subscription Leak Detector is free, works without login, and saves your draft rows locally in your browser.
Do I need to connect my bank account?
No. Add subscriptions manually. The page runs entirely in your browser and saves draft rows locally so a refresh does not wipe your work. No bank credentials, no UPI PIN, no permissions.
What should I cancel first?
Start with items you never use, tagged as regret, duplicated in the same category, or paid through UPI AutoPay without a clear renewal reminder. Then review annual plans that renew in the next 30 days.
How does Essara help after the leak check?
Essara helps you track subscriptions, renewal dates, spending notes, receipt scans, and recurring expense patterns month after month. You can also run the free Subscription Leak Detector again anytime to re-audit your stack.
Why are UPI AutoPay subscriptions harder to track?
UPI AutoPay mandates are created inside your UPI app, not your bank statement, and the debit descriptions are often abbreviated. Many users forget they even set them up. A manual tracker with the mandate name and renewal date prevents surprise debits.
Can I share the leak report with family?
Yes. After generating the report, copy the result or share it on WhatsApp. The shared summary includes your Money Leak Score, monthly spend, and likely waste so your family can review it together.
